1. What is Champions League Twenty20 Cricket?

 

The Champions League Twenty20 (CL T20) is a premier cricket tournament held among top cricket clubs in the world just like Champions League football. 

 

2. How many teams will participate in the tournament?

 

10 teams from 6 countries will participate in the 2010 CL T20 cricket tournament. 4 stadiums in South Africa will host 23 matches over 17 days.

10 Teams divided into 2 groups. Top 2 teams from each group will reach semi-finals.

 

 

3. Who will compete in the tournament?

 

The teams that will compete in the 2010 CL T20 are:

 

DLF IPL Season 3 champions, Chennai Super Kings, runners-up Mumbai Indians and third-placed Bangalore Royal Challengers.

 

South Australia and VB Victorian Bushrangers (Australia);

 

Warriors and Highveld Lions (South Africa);

 

Central Districts Stags (New Zealand)

 

Wayamba (Sri Lanka);

 

One team (West Indies).

 

 

4. When will the competition take place?

 

From September 10-26 in South Africa.

 

5. Who will be Sponsorser and Broadcaster?

 

Airtel will be the title sponsor for a period of 5 years. The event will be called Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (CL T20).

 

ESPN-Star Sports have bagged worldwide broadcast rights for the tournament at a whopping $ 975 million for a period of 10 years. In addition to all cricket-playing nations, CLT20 can be viewed in the US, the Middle East, South East Asia and other regions.

 

6. What are the match-timings?

7. What are the venues for games?

 

Wanderers in johannesburg, Centurion Park, Kingsmead in Durban and Port Elizabeth will host 2010 Champions league T20 cricket matches.

 

 

8. What is the format of the tournament?

 

The teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each and will initially play each other on a league basis. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. A total of 23 matches will be played over a 17-day period in the 2010 CL T20 cricket tournament.

 

 

9. What is the total prize money that the tournament offers?

 

The total prize money fund for the CLT20 Season is $6 million and will be distributed by CLT20 as follows:

11. Who will select Man of the Tournament?

12. Who will select Man of the Match Award?

 

The Man of the Match will be selected by the relevant TV commentators.

 

 

13. What is difference between CLT20 and other Twenty20 competitions?

 

CLT20 can be viewed as the World Cup of club cricket. Also, with a total spend of USD 6 million, CLT20 is the most lucrative international T20 contest and will directly benefit domestic clubs – a great boost for the game.

 

  

15. What are the rules governing players who represent more than one club?

 

If an away team wants to use services of such player, it needs to pay money to his home club.

 

Ex. Bangalore and Victoria needs to pay money to Central Districts Stags if any of them wants to use services of Ross Taylor.

 

 

16. What are the rules regarding players who represent rebel leagues?

 

CLT20 regulations are clearly defined in this area. Teams with players who haven’t withdrawn from rebel leagues until the stipulated date will not have the right to participate in this tournament.

 

17. What are the provisions for abandoned matches?

 

Points from abandoned matches will be split equally between teams.

 

18. What happens in the case of a tie?

 

The super over will decide the winner.

 

19. Who will form the core of the umpiring and refereeing team of the tournament?

 

The tournament will feature the best Indian and international umpires and match referees.

 

20. Who takes a call on a player’s suspect bowling action?

 

The on-field umpire will take action in the case of suspect bowling action. Once he has reported the matter, the player will be referred to the technical committee (made up of eminent members of the various boards) for corrective action.
