About CLT20

 

Champions League T20 cricket tournament idea was inspired from Football Champions League which is considered as premium tournament after FIFA world cup in Soccer. It is a premier tournament among the top T20 teams in India, Australia, South Africa, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Top 3 teams from IPL, top 2 teams in the Australian and South African domestic T20 tournaments automatically qualify for the group stage of CL T20 tournament.

 

Top 2 teams in the England domestic T20 tournament and the winners of the domestic T20 tournaments in Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies will play in qualifying matches along with the fourth placed team in Indian Premier League (IPL). Top 3 teams in the qualifiers will reach group stage.

 

Top 2 teams from each group will reach the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament.

 

Nokia is the title sponsor while Shahrukh Khan is the brand ambassador.


The Champions League (CLT20) features the best domestic Twenty20 teams from across the world and is run by by the boards of India, Australia and South Africa with its governing council comprising representatives from each board. Other countries participate in the tournament by invitation, but Pakistan and Bangladesh are the only two Test-playing countries with no presence in the tournament.

 

  • 2011 Champions League T20 tournament will be held from September 19-October 9 in India. This is the third edition of the tournament. Qualifying stage is introduced in this tournament in 2011. Qualifying matches will be held in Hyderabad from September 19-21.

 

  • South Africa hosted the Champions League Twenty20 tournament in 2010. Chennai Super Kings is the Champion.

 

  • India hosted the first edition of CL T20 tournament in 2009. New South Wales in the Champion.

 

 

Due to Mumbai terrorist attacks, CL T20 tournament was cancelled in 2008.

6. Auckland Aces: Winners of the New Zealand domestic T20 tournament.

 

 

No team from Pakistan and Bangladesh will play in the 2011 CLT20 Cricket tournament.

 

 

CLT20 Format: 10 times will be divided into 2 groups of 5 teams each. Each team play against other 4 teams in that group (round robin format). Top 2 teams from two groups will advance to the semi-finals.
