  Chennai's MA Chidambaram stadium will host the final 2011 Champions League Twenty20 (CL T20) cricket final match. Chennai and Bangalore will host the semi-finals. 10 teams will be divided into two groups. Top 2 teams from each group will reach semi-finals. No team from Pakistan will participate in the Champions League.  CL T20 venues: Chennai, Bangalore & Kolkata  CL T20 schedule: September 23 – October 9.    Qualifying stage is introduced in this edition of Champions League. This is the third edition of CL T20 cricket tournament. New South Wales won the inaugural CL T20 tournament in 2009 while Chennai Super Kings won it in 2010.  13 teams will play in the qualifying round of 2011 CLT20 which will be held in Hyderabad from September 19-21. Six teams will play in qualifying round.  Teams to play in qualifying round: Kolkata Knight Riders (India), Trinidad and Tobago (West Indies), Auckland Aces (New Zealand), two teams from Engalnd and one team from Sri Lanka.  Top 3 teams in qualifying round will qualify for main round of Champions League cricket. 7 teams already reached for main round of 2011 CLT20 tournament.  Already qualified teams:  India: Chennai Super Kings, Bangalore Royal Challengers & Mumbai Indians  Australia: New South Wales & Australian Redbacks  South Africa: Cape Cobras & Warriors  Reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings is once again the hot favourite to win 2011 CL T20 cricket tournament.   … [Read more...]

Champions League Cricket 2008 postponed/cancelled

 The inaugural edition of the prestigious Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament was postponed due to terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Lalit Modi, Chairman of the Champions League, said that they took this after consulting with various cricket boards but he had not given any new dates for Champions League 2008. According to the schedule, this lucrative event (Rs 30 crore prize money) was due to be held from December 3-10 in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.  Mumbai terrorist attacks: More than 150 people are killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and terrorists took control of Taj and Oberoi hotels for 10 hours at which teams are expected to stay in Mumbai during the tournament.Middlesex, Victoria and Western Australia had already cancelled their travel plans even before organisers made this statement. Players like Shane Warne, Shane Watson and Hussey expressed concern about the situation in India.  Forget about Champions League, 2008. Prepare for Champions League 2009. It is very difficult to conduct this tournament in the next 6 months as International calendar is crowded with tests and one day matches. IPL 2009 will take place in April-May, 2009. There is no room left for Champions League 2008 in the international cricket calendar.
