CL T20 has two games on Tuesday; Wayamba took Victoria and the Sussex clash with Eagles. Following is the match review of both the games. Wayamba v Victoria: Wayamba 118 for 9 (Vandort 42, Kulatunga 41, Harwood 3-14) beat Victoria 103 for 4 (Hodge 44*) by 15 runs. Player of the match SM Harwood (Victoria) Wayamba Elevens defeated Victoria Bushrangers by 15 runs in last Group D match but it was not enough for the Sri Lankan side to progress to the next stage of the event as they missed out on net run-rate. After posting a paltry 118 for nine on the board, Wayamba needed to restrict Victoria fewer than 83 to qualify for the next stage, but they failed to do so, thereby losing out a Super Eight spot to Delhi Daredevils and the Australian side. Daredevils will now play their first league match in Bangalore on Saturday, and will return to the home turf to round off their league outing.Brad Hodge top-scored for Victoria in their wayward run-chase with unbeaten 44 off 52 balls, while Andrew McDonald remained not out on 27 off 16 deliveries. For Wayamba, Chanaka Welegedara was pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets for 18 from his four overs. Earlier, Shane Harwood (3/14) ripped apart the Wayamba Elevens batting line up while Clint MCKay (2/24) and Andrew McDonald (2/19) complemented him ably to restrict Wayamba to a paltry 118 for nine. Jeevantha Kulatunga (42 off 39 balls) and Michael Vandort (42 off 44) were the lone bright spot in the Wayamba batting chart with the duo sharing 81 runs for second wicket but still could not manage to guide the Sri Lankan side total past 120 mark. Defending the modest total, Chanaka Welegedara gave Wayamba a dream start, getting the vital wicket of Rob Quiney with Victoria yet to open their account. Victoria seemed to be back in cruise control when Brad Hodge slammed a six over long-on in the fourth over and Aiden Blizzard swiped a boundary to midwicket three balls later. However, Blizzard was bowled next delivery by Welegedara, bringing together Hodge and David Hussey, the two leading run-getters in Twenty20s. He … [Read more...]
CL T20 Cricket match preview: October 13
Tuesday’s games in the T20 Champions League see Victoria take on Wayamba and The Eagles face Sussex. We take a look at both matches. Both of Tuesday’s games will take place in Delhi, of the 4 matches on this ground, 3 have been won by the side batting first, the exception to the trend being Victoria’s demolition of Delhi who could only manage 98/8 in their 20 overs. Victoria v Wayamba: Time and Venue: 16:00 local -10:30 GMT, Delhi A super-eight berth at stake, Australia's Victoria Bushrangers and Sri Lanka's Wayamba Elevens take on each other in the must-win final group D match of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament in New Delhi. Victoria is in control of the group after a crushing win over Delhi Daredevils in their opening game. They remain on top of the group on net run rate and the only way the can fail to qualify is if they suffer a very heavy defeat here. After such a professional performance in their opening game, Victoria start firm favourites so Wayamba will have their work cut out to win the game, let alone win it by a wide enough margin to see them overhaul either Victoria or Delhi. Wayamba were perhaps unfortunate to come up against Sehwag on a good day in their opening game and the 50 run defeat has really left them with a mountain to climb. Such is the desperation of their position; they have no choice but to give it a real go with the bat but the wicket to wicket bowling of Victoria will not be easy to get away. Victoria has a solid batting line-up starting with Australia international Brad Hodge, who would look to strike form after coming a cropper against Daredevils. Wayamba's batting, on the other hand, flopped miserably against Delhi with Mahela Jayawardene being the only one to put up a fight. The likes of Farveez Maharoof and Chanaka Welegedara also failed to make any impact. Eagles v Sussex: Time and Venue: 20:00 local -14:30 GMT, Delhi With New South Wales having already qualified from the group, this becomes an eliminator, the winner goes through and the loser goes home. Using New South Wales as our … [Read more...]
